In 1666, Ned Kynaston is the most celebrated actor on the English stage. His specialty: Shakespeare’s tragic heroine, Desdemona. After the newly reinstated King Charles II decides to allow women to play female roles in public, all hell breaks loose for Ned: he cannot compete with an actual woman, no matter how good his acting chops are! The final straw is when his loyal dresser, Maria, is suddenly starring in his beloved role and he, Ned, finds himself working in a bawdy tavern-house, struggling to survive. BUZZ

Charismatic director, Mary Ann ‘Buzz’ Goodbody, was one of only a handful of women directing in the U.K. in the 1970’s. In 1975, she famously directed Ben Kingsley in the title role of HAMLET at the Royal Shakespeare Company; the Hamlet of their generation.

Four days after the first performance, she was dead at age 28.

BUZZ is a funny, powerful, heartbreaking and universal story about the unique challenges of the creative process and a woman’s struggle for agency in a man’s world.
